3 Terrific Local Hiking Trails

When it comes to things to do at Highland Lake, you can’t go wrong with Flat Rock hiking trails like

  1. Big Glassy Mountain Trail: Located just off the road from downtown Flat Rock, NC, Carl Sandburg offers a pair of the most popular hiking trails located near our Highland Lake rentals. This easy-to-moderate trail is just over three miles round trip with a gradual rise and fall in elevation that most members of the family should be able to handle just find. At the peak, hikers are rewarded with a large granite bald that affords a perfect view of downtown Hendersonville and the larger mountain ranges lying north.
  2. Triple Falls Trail: This particular trail offers options for just about every type of hiker. By starting at the Hooker Falls parking area, the first falls is locate within a short 5 to 10 minute walk that is accessible enough for just about anyone to reach. A second and third falls are also available for more adventurous hikers, and the park now has an additional trail that will take you up to Bridal Veil Falls. This last falls was featured in a famous scene from the film Last of the Mohicans and can be reached more easily from a couple other Flat Rock trails in the park.
  3. Black Mountain Trail: If you are in search of a more challenging excursion, you’ll find a ton of great hiking trails at nearby Pisgah National Forrest. Black Mountain Trail is one of the most well known strenuous trails in the park, featuring great views during the fall and winter along Soapstone Ridge, as well as as serious climb of about 800 feet in under a mile going up Little Hickory Knob. The trail head for Black Mountain Trail can easily be found in the parking lot for the Pisgah District Work Center located just off Hwy 276.
