Flat Rock, NC Calendar of Events: August 2012

It’s hard to believe that the last few weeks of summer are upon us already. If you plan on spending some time at our Highland Lake rentals in August, rest assured that there’s still plenty to see and do in our area. Let’s take a look at a few of the special events that are planned in and around Flat Rock, NC for the month of August.

Sky Top Orchard – Open for Apple Picking!

Thanks to the mild winter and early spring that we’ve experienced in western North Caroline, the apple crop is coming in a few weeks ahead of schedule this year.The popular Sky Top Orchard has announced that several varieties of apples are already available for picking. Starting August 8, visitors can take their pick from Ginger Golds, Honeycrisp, Gala and Early Macs with other varieties to appear in the weeks to come.

94th Annual Street Dances – August 6 & 13

Stop by Main Street in downtown Hendersonville between 7:00 and 9:00 PM to enjoy a variety of ethnic dances brought to you by the the Appalachian Fire Bluegrass Band and J. Creek Cloggers. Entertainment includes bluegrass music, clogging and square dancing. Be sure to bring a chair if you plan on staying long. Admission is free, but no pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Movies on Main – August 7

Looking for some family fun this week? The Hendersonville Film Society has partnered with the Community Foundation of Henderson County to bring us a very cool program called Movies on Main. Enjoy classic movies in the open air with neighbors and friends at the Historic Henderson County Courthouse block. This month’s entertainment starts at 7:30 with live music from Amy Burritt, followed by a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at 9:00. Snacks will be available for purchase at the event.
